Today we got our hands on the new E.P from Scottish 6-piece, Aimless Nomads.
“The Busker” creeps in with some excellent narrative vocals. There is something about a strong Scottish accent that adds a texture of modern poetry to a song. The chorus crashes in with it’s sing-a-long vocal line. This is a great indie/pop song that merges quite a few styles but ultimately twists these into something very different. The track is often purposely stripped back which only adds to it’s charm – not a single note is wasted on this incredible opener.
“Genie” has more of a 70’s rock vibe to it but with the trademark Aimless Nomad’s twist on things. I guarantee by the 3rd line you’ll be shouting along – “Genie!”. Often when bands go into the studio they lose some of the passion and modern digital recording often strips this back but not in the case of this E.P. It is slightly raw which ensures the passion is still there in abundance.
Next up “Got to Get Away”. There is a touch of a 90’s indie feel to this number and it just further demonstrates how many influences Aimless Nomad manages to draw on to create their own unique sound. The chorus of this one is awesome with a chant like refrain that really sticks with you after the song is done. The formula of the song is really played with showing some interesting sections which only adds to its appeal. A song we would love to hear live.
The E.P ends with a song with so much swagger, Jagger would be proud. “Bar Brawl” is a song you have to nod along with. The driving guitar, varied drumming and soaring vocals pull you into the track. There is a harmonised vocal breakdown which is as brilliant as it is mesmerising. The track builds and chugs through to its impressive conclusion
4 great tracks from a great band
