Review: Blanco Negra

Blanco Negra return with Hard Cold Lover, a filthy, swagger-soaked blast of sleaze-punk rock ’n’ roll that swaggers into the room, kicks over the table and drinks all your whisky before you’ve even stood up. From the very first second, that monstrous opening riff hits like a wrecking ball - thick, snarling and impossible not to nod along to. The bass and drums pile in with a thunderous crash, locking into a groove that feels both classic and chaotic in all the right ways.

The vocals are an intoxicating blend of punk snarl and bluesy grit, giving the band a raw edge reminiscent of The Yo-Yo’s or Backyard Babies, while still sounding entirely their own. There’s a ragged charm here - rough around the edges in a way that feels intentional, authentic and downright exciting. When the chorus hits, those backing vocals lift everything into a new gear, adding a melodic punch that instantly sticks. By the second chorus you’re already yelling along like you’ve known it for years.

The swagger throughout is undeniable. This is the sound of a band who know exactly who they are: loud, honest, energetic and utterly unashamed of their sleazy, punk-drenched roots. The mix of influences—Motorhead grit, New York Dolls glamour, Wildhearts chaos melts into something that feels properly fresh, properly hungry and properly Blanco Negra.

Hard Cold Lover is a roaring statement of intent and a perfect teaser for their debut album Smile! You’re Not Dead Yet. If this single is anything to go by, 2026 is going to be loud, messy and brilliant.

Because when it comes to sleaze-punk romance, Blanco Negra don’t just break the ice… they smash it to hard-cold pieces.
