Today we got to hear 2 new tracks from Warrington’s own; Copperworm. An audio assault that takes parts of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s rock scene whilst bringing it into the modern era. Dark as it is thoughtful and laden with thick rock groove.
First up is “Little Red”. The opening riff has a lazy, infectious swagger that builds as it swaggers. This track really layers up into a bluesy grind that draws you in with its repetition and note-perfect soloing. The vocal has that awesome blues crack that Jim Morrisson himself would be proud of. There is definitely a hint of The Doors here but merely as an influence. The laid back groove fits the brooding vocal perfectly and nearly has me reaching for the weed. There is an impressive 70’s vibe to this track but with enough lift to make it modern and fresh. A great start.
The second track, “Carved” shows a different side to Copperworm as it bursts into life. The 70’s drug-fuelled vibe is still present but now we are motoring along. The vocal is really strong on this track whilst the lyrics merge a kind of 70’s beat poetry with the sensibilities of 90’s Grunge. This must be an awesome track live with impressive guitar work and rock solid drumming. One thing Copperworm do better than most is the use of space in their music. They ring out those chords, hang on those notes and let their music really breathe.
For Fans of: The Doors, 70’s Rock and music that has a soul.
