Corrozion’s Dark Lights is a brooding, powerful EP that pulls you under from the very first second and refuses to let go. Sitting at the crossroads of alternative metal, prog, doom and post-rock, this is a band that clearly know who they are -and more importantly, know exactly what they want to say.
Hypnotized opens with a wonderfully eerie 50s B-movie sample, setting the scene before the track detonates into life. When the band hit, they hit hard—crushing double-kick drumming, massive riffs and a vocal that cuts straight through the noise. There are flashes of Fear Factory, Machine Head and Faith No More, but filtered through a modern lens that makes the sound unmistakably Corrozion. What really stands out is the groove and melody -elements many bands in this genre forget entirely. This track worms its way into your head and stays there. A superb opener.
Out of Time twists and reshapes 90s nu-metal influences into something darker and far more evolved. The vocals really shine here, shifting effortlessly between styles while the band play with tempo and structure. At times it feels like it’s about to collapse into chaos—then suddenly snaps back together with a thick, head-nodding groove. It’s restless, inventive and packed with ideas, yet never feels messy.
When Death Decides for You is huge. A gothic, almost operatic opening gives way to grinding heaviness, while the vocal swagger adds a striking contrast to the oppressive backdrop. Once again, Corrozion prove they can write a proper hook -something far rarer in heavy music than it should be. The restraint shown in the songwriting gives the song far more power than brute force ever could.
The EP closes with Sleepwalker, and it might just be the standout moment. Floating in on a foreboding beat and beautifully delivered vocals, the track channels early-2000s stoner rock vibes -Type O Negative shades with a darker gothic twist. When the distortion finally crashes in, it’s explosive yet controlled, blending heaviness and melody in a way that feels genuinely thrilling. The screamed refrain of “sleepwalker” is unforgettable and the chaotic outro is so richly layered it practically demands headphones.
Dark Lights is a confident, immersive release from a band unafraid to mix melody with muscle, restraint with chaos. Corrozion don’t just flirt with darkness - they shape it, mould it and make it groove.
This EP doesn’t just shine in the shadows… it corrodes everything around it -in the best possible way.
