Double Negative – “Nights Like These”

With their debut single “Nights Like These,” Double Negative have announced themselves as one of the most exciting new names in British alternative rock. Blending sun-soaked retro vibes with fresh energy and modern production, the band have created something both nostalgic and new — a sound that feels instantly familiar yet undeniably their own.

The track tells a story of teenage heartbreak and personal reinvention, but it’s delivered with such conviction and passion that it hits far deeper than a simple coming-of-age anthem. The haunting, reflective vocal elevates the song, giving it emotional weight, while the interplay between the guitars and bass provides a smooth yet powerful foundation.

As the song builds, the chorus soars — the vocals and guitar intertwine beautifully, producing that rare chemistry you can’t fake. There’s a crispness to the mix that lets every instrument breathe, giving the track real clarity and punch. You can hear echoes of Cheap Trick’s melodic hooks, a touch of Radiohead’s emotional blend, and a guitar solo that’s perfectly judged — expressive without ever overstepping.

It’s easy to see why “Nights Like These” has already clocked up over 10,000 streams since its release — the song lingers long after it ends, especially with that aching, pained vocal outro that feels like the sound of letting go.

With their Manchester Academy 3 headline show on the horizon and new music set for 2026, Double Negative are clearly on an upward trajectory. “Nights Like These” isn’t just a great debut — it’s a sign of a band who already sound ready for the big stages.

If this is what Double Negative sounds like starting out, the future’s looking very positive indeed.
