GunPoint X – Perfection of Human Error (EP)
Strap in, recalibrate and prepare for overload - GunPoint X have returned with their explosive debut EP Perfection of Human Error and it’s every bit the industrial, metallic, cybernetic beast we hoped for. The Glasgow-based collective - featuring members of the legendary Let’s Play God - describe their style as GunMetal or Machine Groove and honestly, it fits perfectly. This is the sound of industrial metal re-engineered for 2025 - blending the crushing riffs of Machine Head and Pantera with the mechanical precision of Ministry, White Zombie and Fear Factory and the cold beauty of Nine Inch Nails humming underneath the chaos.
Opening with the title track “Perfection of Human Error (Error 404 Mix)”, the EP doesn’t so much begin as it erupts. The cacophony of distorted samples, double-kick drum and chainsaw guitars create a Rob Zombie-style nightmare, underscored by eerie spoken word passages that make the hair on your arms stand up. It’s industrial horror at its finest - disorienting, brutal and utterly captivating.
Next, “Pain and Glory (U Must Suffer Mix)” goes straight for the jugular. The bassline physically shakes your ribcage, the synths scream in panic and the vocals snarl with apocalyptic rage. This is what Ministry would sound like if they were born in the AI age. Yet, beneath the chaos is structure - the kind of brutal melody and groove that makes you move whether you want to or not. It’s punishing, intelligent and addictive.
“Built for Sin (Sinthetik Mix)” keeps the adrenaline high but adds a gothic undercurrent. The sirens, the crunching riffs and the perfectly executed double-kick make this an absolute standout. There’s melody hidden within the mayhem, giving the track a Pantera-like precision with a Sepultura-level aggression. The breakdown builds tension like a cinematic apocalypse before the song detonates back into its grinding chorus - dark, epic and perfectly executed.
Then comes “Guns Guns Guns (BFG Remix)” - and what an intro. A crackling, distorted American anthem fades, only to be sliced apart by the chilling command: “Hit it, sweetheart.” What follows is pure carnage. The samples are perfectly placed, adding menace and commentary in equal measure. The chorus chant of “GUNS! GUNS! GUNS!” is irresistible, brutal and strangely anthemic - a barbed satire delivered at full blast. This one’s built for both the mosh pit and the end of the world.
“Shockwave Theory/Human Evolution (ctrl-alt-d3ceased Mix)” shows a completely different side to the band - more restrained but no less powerful. It’s a melodic industrial anthem, packed with groove and purpose. And then, just as you’re consumed by the machine, in comes a piano - yes, a piano - weaving delicate chords through the chaos like a glimmer of humanity breaking through the circuitry. It’s disarming, breathtaking and brilliantly subversive. The outro feels like sunlight after nuclear fallout - fragile, yet defiant.
“User Unfriendly (R3ject 4ll Mix)” creeps in like an old black-and-white horror film before exploding into an all-out audio assault. Time changes, samples and sheer sonic violence collide in a track that perfectly embodies controlled chaos. It’s unrelenting, unpredictable and a reminder that GunPoint X are masters of tension and release.
Closing track “This Changes Everything (Closure Mix)” begins with deceptive calm - a shimmering keyboard line that feels almost danceable before the track erupts into one of the heaviest, most grinding slabs of metal this year. It’s futuristic and primal all at once, the perfect finale to a record that never lets go.
Perfection of Human Error is exactly that - a flawless fusion of chaos and craft. GunPoint X have created something rare: a record that feels both dangerous and deliberate, visceral yet intelligent. It’s an album that doesn’t follow the machine - it becomes it.
GunPoint X aren’t just breaking the mould - they’ve melted it down, reforged it in steel and wired it to explode.
