Today we have 3 tracks from a band that we keep seeing everywhere on Social Media at the moment. Holy Shot! Are certainly not pulling any punches with this offering. Here at Band Assist HQ we love acts that blend a lot of different styles and boy do Holy Shot! achieve this.
“Cassanova” is 4 minutes of powerful rock which merges together a huge range of influences without being too obvious. There is a hint of Bowie, a smattering of Sonic Youth and just a twist of The Smashing Pumpkins. There is a lot going on in this track but it works so well and really creates more than a song, it’s a sonic landscape. The song is extremely well produced and features an epic solo – the sort of solo you end up humming days later. A great single and one of the best songs we have heard in a long time.
Next up is “Dressed to Kill” which demonstrates another side to the South Yorkshire outfit. This time the band merges in just a twist of 80’s sleaze and features some impressive vocals and a bass line that pounds the song along. This song has a chorus that needs to be screamed at Download this year. The song swaggers forward and just when you think its going one way it drops into an awesome middle 8 before ripping into a solo that Slash would be proud of – God we love a tremolo bar. This has to be an open song for the band as it really sets the tone for their music. The outro is a messy, audio blur and such a great way to end the song.
Our only criticism is there were only 2 songs for us to listen to. This band have such a high-octane unique modern sound that they are now on repeat in our office.
For Fans of: Modern Rock, 80’s Hard Rock – actually anyone who likes rock music.
