Review: Homecoming
Homecoming crash back onto the scene with Big Red-a gloriously unhinged slice of festive pop-punk chaos that proves Christmas songs don’t need sleigh rides and cinnamon to absolutely slap. This one bursts in with a cheeky muted riff, a flurry of jingle bells and then smashes straight into a rhythm that prime-era Sum 41 would’ve killed for.
The vocal layers on this track are huge - properly huge - and make the whole thing sound stadium-ready. It’s loud, fast, ridiculous and brilliant, with more hooks than a tree full of baubles. What’s clever is how much thought is baked into a song that’s clearly meant to be fun; the structure is packed with little twists, switch-ups and melodic turns that put it miles above the “pop-punk by numbers” we get sent every week.
It is probably not a good idea to play your 6 year old cousin this track due to the abrupt ending (listen and see what we mean!) or you may be funding counselling in a few years!
At just over three minutes, you’ll be smashing that repeat button before you can say "Ho Ho… oh no."
Homecoming wanted to break into the Billboard Top 600 this year—on the strength of Big Red, they’re well on their way.
Find them on Spotify and get festive the pop-punk way.
