Next up we have a blast of metal for Shadow Monarchy
We were lucky enough to get to listen to their new song “DFIU”.

This song plays the loud/quiet dynamic with sheer sonic perfection. The guitar, drums and bass create a swagger, a roll and pull the song along with incredible precision whilst the soaring vocal is juxtaposed by the aggressive primal screaming. There are some impressive ideas going on in the song and the riffs are heavy and grinding. It’s part grunge, part hardcore, part metal but overall an awesome track for those of us that like their rock hard. Also special mention for the absolute shredding solo in the middle of the track.
We loved this track so much we delved a little deeper into Shadow Monarchy’s back catalogue. Boy, are we glad we did. If you only listen to one new song today make it “Falling Forwards” where the band add a touch of 90’s Nu-Metal but with such a modern feel. The vocals are so unique and perfect on this as they mesh with the jagged guitar line. This is very different and merges some incredible melodies together. This certainly could be a hard rock track that crosses the border and has mass audience appeal. Stop reading this and listen to it now.
“Confidence Man” is a melting pot of speeds, vocal styles, guitar sounds that results in another song that could easily cross over into the mainstream. This is a masterclass in modern metal song writing. The use of space in this song elevates it to the next level. There are so many twists and turns on this one, it means one listen is not enough. This is one tight act that is difficult to pigeon-hole. They are just really, really good.
What a band!
