Next up is the 90’s throwbacks and awesomely named “Stoned Turtle”
Their new single “isolation” is a prime cut of power-driven rock. There is definitely a 90’s influence but this is not too heavily relied on and feels fresh and modern. The pained vocals add a level of authenticity to the track that so many modern bands lack. This band is armed with a truckload of riffs and flows them together incredibly well. The mix of classic and alternative rock truly blends this single into something very different. The outro is simply awesome as it builds to a crescendo before harking back to the echoed intro – great work and a great introduction to the band.
As we loved “Isolation” so much we decided to delve into their other tracks. We are glad we did as we found the stellar “Doors of Perception” that has the best intro we have heard all year. This is groove-laden, bass-heavy hard rock at it’s very best. There is a darkness to the Turtle boys but before it brings you down too low, the song shifts and lifts you back up. The bass drives this song and adds a new texture to the song. This is another great track which is incredibly well produced, especially the doubled vocals.
Finally, we wanted to draw your attention to “Sweet” which is a far more straight-ahead rock song in the tradition of “Quiet/Loud” but with far more melody than your standard grunge band. The use of space and stops in this song makes it a track we would love to hear.
