Next up are Finnish Metallers, Strain on Society. They are serving up their latest E.P “They Call Me Desperation” and wow do they deliver.
Next up is my personal favourite track on the E.P – “Reality Delusions”. The riff kicks you back in your chair and you have to blast it. There are some pretty complex changes throughout this song but it just works so well. The vocal adds to the heaviness of the track and adds a further colour to the track. These guys are a seriously tight unit and live this sone must surely be the closing number, leaving the crown wondering what the hell just hit them.
“Last Party” starts with bellowing drums and distorted chords ringing out before a huge “kick-in” with the vocal to bring full life to the track. The harmony of the guitar line matched with the brutal vocal and pounding drums in this track really sums up what Strain on Society are all about. They build soundscapes that draw the listener into them.
And now for something completely different. “Mindless Feeling” is a bit of a mindfuck but a good one. This slower, brooding number showcases another side and demonstrates what an awesome vocalist the band possesses. The angelic tone matched by the murderous growl dynamic works so well here and shows that Strain on Society are more than your average dark metal band.
The E.P ends with “Lying Liar” which sees a return to their usual breakneck metal sound whilst still being extremely musical and adding layers of texture to their music. The track is a rollercoaster of speed changes and aggressive relapses. A great end to the E.P and we can’t wait for the next instalment.
