Next up we have melodic metallic maniacs, The Lucidia Project and their E.P – The Requiem EP.
“Requiem” blasts out of the speakers instantly and is a message of intent from tis musical powerhouse. The metal drumming blended with a soaring, almost operatic vocal and blissful piano line shouldn’t work but it does so well. The mix of harsh and light makes this a true musical landscape rather than just a song. The song builds and flows in so many different directions that it keeps you on your toes. It also has a breakdown mid song that has to be heard to be believed. It truly is an epic opener.
“Eventide” hits like an 80’s nightmare but in a good way. The haunting keys and powerful drumming is present once again to bring the song to life and give The Lucidia Project their trademark sound. The song winds up and down with a very demonic breakdown that is worth a listen alone!
“Deliverance”, like their music, begins in a completely different way with a melodic soaring vocal and piano line. Its dreamlike lulls you into the soundscape and carries you along. The pained lyrics fit the rolling music so well. The use of space and silence shows the incredible songwriting skill on show here. This is more of a concerto over a song. It really is beautiful, delicate and elegant. Great song.
The E.P finishes with “The End of Lies” which hits you straight away with an incredible speed metal riff. This is The Lucidia Project demonstrating their “doom metal” credentials and flexing their musical muscle once again. Their music really is a journey and so many contrary ideas that shouldn’t work but they do so well. Listen to the dual vocals on the verse – it is incredible and something you have never heard before. Its brutally beautiful, a psychopathic symphony.
Late Addition!!! Whilst looking at The Lucidia Project we discovered they have just released a brand new single: “Soul Killer”. Wow. We are so glad we checked as this is their masterpiece. It brings together the best parts of the songs mentioned above and squeezes them into an incredible 5-minute opus. The soft, loud, brutal, beautiful dynamics are all there but this time their sound has matured even more – There is almost a pop sensibility to the track which makes it more accessible. If you want to hear something really unique, play “Soul Killer” now!
For Fans of: Evanescence, Lacuna Coil and epic musical soundscapes.
