Next up is a band that affectionately refer to their fans as “Doggers” er……okkkkkaaaayyyy. Evolving from previous indie band, Irwell, the Moondogz are breathing new life into melodic, driving rock.
First up is their new single “Better Man” which tackles the challenging subject of men’s mental health. The track is extremely well-produced and hits hard. The lyrics and driving guitar line really push the song along nicely. When dealing with such topics it is easy to be too preachy and obvious but Better Man steers clear of this and strikes a great balance. The accompanying video is also great and fits the song very well. A great effort and extremely well written track on a tough subject.
Next up with have “Don’t Speak at All” which has more swagger than 70’s Jagger. The chorus is incredible and will definitely stay with you long after the song has finished. The blistering guitar and pounding drums and bass give a real sway to the tune. You get a real “live” feel from this track and we would love to hear this one cranked up to 10 in a dark bar. “Don’t Speak at All” showcases The Moondogz adding a little more bite to their music and provides a more gritty feel.
We also got to hear “Leave the Light On”. This track is a lot more direct and further cements the bands hard rock credentials. The swagger is still there but this track has far more of a pop overture which makes the bands appeal far wider. They twist the straight ahead rock formula with well-thought-out lyrics and a thumping back line. Ok…..I’m not scared to say it……I’m a dogger too now
