Next up is the brand new single Conniption, released on 25th July, from Dublin's own electronic innovators Urban Rituals.
Formed in 2025, Urban Rituals have quickly carved out their own distinctive sound by blending swirling shoegaze textures with electronic production, atmospheric noise and dream-pop melodies. On paper, it sounds like an ambitious mix. In reality, it is even more exciting than you could imagine.
Conniption grabs your attention from the very first second.
A mesmerising synth line opens the track, creating an almost hypnotic atmosphere before crushing guitars suddenly crash into the mix, lifting everything onto an entirely different plane. It is an opening that instantly tells you this isn't going to follow any conventional formula.
The vocal performance is equally striking.
Raw, aggressive and delivered with genuine punk attitude, it cuts through the dense instrumentation perfectly. Imagine Nine Inch Nails locking themselves in a studio with Ministry while Johnny Rotten turns up at the microphone - only with considerably stronger vocals than the original punk icon. It is confrontational, urgent and exactly what this track needs.
One of the biggest strengths of Conniption is its incredible depth.
Every listen reveals another hidden synth texture, another subtle guitar layer or another clever production choice that you somehow missed the first time around. It is a song that genuinely rewards repeat plays, constantly revealing something new beneath its abrasive exterior.
The marriage between electronic production and rock instrumentation is outstanding.
Many bands have attempted this crossover over the years, but very few have blended the two worlds with this much confidence and cohesion. The synths never overpower the guitars, while the guitars add weight and menace without sacrificing the hypnotic electronic pulse underneath.
The result is something that feels huge, dangerous and completely exhilarating.
Despite all the sonic experimentation, Urban Rituals never lose sight of melody. That infectious hook running through the heart of the song gives Conniption an accessibility that many genre-crossing acts struggle to achieve.
There are flashes of early Rob Zombie lurking beneath the surface, but Urban Rituals push things in a far more eclectic direction, borrowing ideas from punk, industrial, shoegaze, electronic music and modern metal before moulding them into something entirely their own.
Nothing about this feels safe.
Nothing about it feels predictable.
And that is precisely why it works so brilliantly.
