A bold, blues-indie hybrid that hits with swagger and soul.
“Magpies” finds Wild Horse leaning into something darker, grittier and emotionally charged. The track’s central theme of trust, betrayal and self-preservation sits perfectly inside its blues-soaked strut - a song about keeping your circle tight and choosing peace even when the world feels anything but loyal.
A confident blues riff strolls in first, setting the tone with a cool, unhurried swagger before the rhythm section locks into a solid backbeat. The vocals drop in with an indie edge that instantly elevates the mood, giving the whole track a modern bite while keeping its blues heart beating loud. There’s a real chemistry between voice and guitar here; they weave around each other effortlessly as we slide into a chorus that’s ridiculously catchy without ever feeling forced.
The reflective tone of the vocal gives the hook surprising emotional depth and the layered harmonies show a band completely in control of their craft. It’s one of those choruses that lands immediately - you get why this one was chosen as a single within seconds.
The breakdown shifts the song into a new space without losing its identity, adding tension before the guitar solo arrives. The solo is perfectly judged: melodic, understated and completely in tune with the emotion of the track. No showboating, just good taste.
“Magpies” is a standout slice of indie-blues flair - bold, assured and dripping with character. It’s the kind of track you replay straight away, partly for the groove, partly for the message and mostly because Wild Horse make it sound so effortless.
In short, “Magpies” is proof that when Wild Horse take flight, they steal the show - not your shine.
